Propose and review changes

Suggest replacement text, decide on pending proposals, and inspect or undo applied AI edits.

On this page

Suggestions are proposed replacements that wait for a decision. Suggestions also shows edits an assistant has already applied. Check whether a card is pending or applied before acting on it.

Before you suggest a change

You need membership in the team that owns the document. Team members can suggest and edit. Accepting, rejecting, and undoing changes require editing permission, not exclusive ownership of the document.

Human suggestions require a selection within one document section. Split selections that span sections into separate proposals. To reorganize the whole document, edit it directly.

Propose replacement wording

  1. Select the passage to replace.
  2. Choose Suggest edit.
  3. Read Original in the Suggest an edit dialog.
  4. Change the replacement under Your edit.
  5. Optionally enter a Reason.
  6. Click Suggest.

The replacement field supports rich text and inline formatting. You do not need raw Markdown. Suggest stays unavailable until the content differs from the starting text.

The proposal waits for a decision without changing the document. To leave without submitting, choose Cancel.

If the dialog reports that the document may have changed, close it and select the current passage again.

Ask an assistant to propose instead of apply

Ordinary requests to edit a document apply directly. If you want to decide first, say so explicitly, for example, "Propose a shorter opening and let me review it before applying it."

The assistant's pending proposal has Accept and Reject controls. An applied edit has a change record and may offer Undo.

For a precise change, quote the complete sentence or words you want replaced. Exact-text edits work within a single prose text block. An abbreviated quote that spans several blocks is not a precise target. Changes to list structure, table rows, or section organization need a structural edit instead.

Decide on a pending proposal

Open Suggestions and expand the change's Changes preview when needed. Read the removed and added text together with the reason and the surrounding document.

Choose Accept to apply the proposal. Choose Reject to decline it without changing the draft. The available controls depend on the change's current state and your permissions. Another teammate may decide on the same proposal while you are reading it.

To ask for a revision, comment on the pending proposal. Mention @Livemark to ask the assistant to revise that proposal in place.

Handle stale changes and refused undo

Livemark checks whether the target section still matches the content on which the edit was based. Stale proposals cannot overwrite newer writing.

If a proposal becomes stale, read the current section and create a new proposal for that text. For an applied edit, use Undo only when the control is available. Undo can be refused when later changes make the reversal unsafe. Read the refusal rather than assuming the earlier content was restored.

Undo concerns one change. It is not a document-wide rollback. Before an extensive rewrite, create a saved version, then restore that checkpoint if you need to return the whole draft.

Use comments for discussion and reviews for a decision about the document's overall readiness.
