Discuss a document with comments
Start anchored threads, reply with screenshots, and resolve questions without changing the draft.
On this page
Use comment threads to discuss a passage or ask Livemark for help. Comments do not change the draft.
Before you comment
You must belong to the team that owns the document. Team members can comment as well as edit and suggest changes. A mention does not give someone outside the team permission to open the document.
A comment is not a review answer. Resolving a thread does not count as Ready or clear a Not yet answer. Use reviews for those decisions.
Start a thread on a passage
- Open the document.
- Select the text you want to discuss.
- Choose Comment from the selection actions.
- Write the question or observation and submit the comment.
The thread stays associated with that passage.
Open Comments to find the discussion. The Open filter shows unresolved threads. Resolved shows threads that have been closed. An empty Open list can mean that the discussion has been resolved, not that nobody ever commented.
Reply and mention a teammate
Open an unresolved thread, enter your message in Reply…, and click Reply. Type @ to choose a mention from the available people or Livemark.
Resolved threads do not show the reply composer. Use Reopen before continuing a discussion that needs another answer.
Add a screenshot to a reply
Paste an image into the reply box, add an explanation or question, and submit the reply.
To ask Livemark about a screenshot, include a written question and mention @Livemark. An attachment-only reply is not enough, and a filename does not give the assistant the image's contents.
Oversized images, images beyond the assistant's attachment limit, and attachments that cannot be fetched may be left out of its response context. This image-reading path does not treat PDF attachments as pictures. If the assistant says it cannot see an attachment, provide the relevant details in text or retry with a suitable image.
Invite Livemark into the discussion
Mention @Livemark to ask the assistant to respond in the thread. Once Livemark has participated, human follow-up replies can continue the discussion without another mention each time.
Livemark acts within your document permissions. To review a replacement before it is applied, explicitly request a suggestion for review.
Pending suggestions can also have discussion. Mention Livemark on a proposal when you want it to revise that proposal rather than create an unrelated alternative.
Resolve, reopen, or delete a thread
Choose Resolve when the question is answered. The thread moves to Resolved, where you can read it later and choose Reopen if the concern returns.
Only the person who opened a thread gets its Delete action. Deletion asks for confirmation. Use Resolve to close a thread without deleting the discussion.
For replacement wording, see suggestions. For larger drafting conversations, see chat.
