Live AI Steering: Change Direction Without Waiting

Stop a run, send a correction into its next step, or queue a separate follow-up.

By ·

You can now change direction while the assistant is working. A correction does not have to wait for a long reply to finish before it becomes useful.

Press Enter while a reply runs to steer it. Your message is read after the current step, and appears in the conversation where it was read. Use Option+Enter when you mean a separate next turn instead. Escape, or Stop, ends the run and keeps the answer written so far, marked Stopped.

Waiting messages show whether they are steering, queued, or paused, with controls to send, edit, or remove them. A stop, failure, or a reply ending on a question pauses waiting messages instead of blindly sending them into an uncertain conversation.

The assistant also keeps expandable reasoning summaries alongside its work, so you can inspect the explanation available for a turn without leaving every detail open. Not every question needs a reasoning block.

Stopping a reply is not undoing edits it already made. Check the document's change cards if you need to reverse a change.

Open a document and try a correction during the assistant's next multi-step task.
